DTA Version 16 has been released, including the new "Shadow Exodus" singleplayer campaign!

As an unproven Brotherhood commander in Eastern Europe, you will face formidable challenges and diverse foes. Is victory even possible?
Watch the Launch Trailer below!
Shadow Exodus is a new Nod singleplayer campaign for Dawn of the Tiberium Age. Led by ToasterCat, who previously created "Power to the People" two years ago, it also includes work from several other DTA community mappers, including Shush, Mehdi860, ISeeMangos, Chronoseth, and ZivDero. The campaign tells the story of a Nod commander near the end of the First Tiberium War, and it utilizes a set of unique campaign features previously seen in Covert Revolt - cutscenes, preconditions, and bonuses.
Engine Improvements
The new singleplayer campaign isn't all that this update brings. We have massively improved the Tiberian Sun game engine used by DTA, both technically behind the scenes and in player-facing QoL features.
- First off, the game's legacy DirectDraw rendering backend has finally been replaced with SDL, which should solve compatibility issues with modern systems for good.
- It is now possible to use the Queued Move (default: Z) key to queue moves for aircraft.
- It is now possible to queue infantry into the Armory and Hospital buildings. Those buildings can also be assigned rally points where infantry automatically move to after exiting the buildings.
- It is now possible to queue additional units to a Service Depot even if the depot is already busy repairing a previous batch of vehicles.
The multiplayer experience has also been dramatically improved:
- Saved games can now be loaded from the ESC (Options) menu directly while you are in-game. This makes especially high-difficulty co-op missions much more convenient to play - if you mess up, just go load a save.
- We managed to identify and fix at least one bug that sometimes caused saved games to get corrupted.
- In case you encounter a desync error (we haven't yet managed to fully fix them), a user-friendly interface is now displayed. The interface allows the game host to choose whether to load a saved game to get everyone back in sync, or continue playing without the desynced players. There is also a chat interface so you can discuss with the other players about what is the preferred option, or which save to load.
- Speaking of multiplayer, we've allowed you to view the original TD and RA1 cutscenes when playing our 2-player co-op remakes of their campaigns. However, skipping the videos has been impossible. That is no longer the case: players can vote to skip the videos. If everyone agrees, the video is skipped.
Last but not least, due to the nature of sound itself, this is impossible to demonstrate with a GIF, but the game's original DirectSound audio engine has been replaced with miniaudio. This means the game can now play effectively an infinite number of sounds at once, while the original TS engine was limited to 5 sound channels (of which 1 was reserved for music and 1 for EVA announcements, leaving a whopping 3 for in-game sounds). Unit firing sounds no longer get cut off like they did before.
All these mentioned engine improvements are part of the "Vinifera" engine extension, which we have co-developed with other community programmers.
New GDI Shipyard Art
Between mostly technical changes, there's also a little bit of new art. GDI used to recycle the RA1 Allied Naval Yard. No longer - Mehdi860 modeled a new Shipyard for them, with beautiful animations. He also created the civilian crane prop, which is also visible in the GIF below.
New Multiplayer Maps
We have once again expanded our MP map roster, this time with four new 8-player maps.
[8] Seabound Highway by ISeeMangos.
[8] Oilworks by Rampastring.
[8] Combat Zones by Rampastring. Remake of the map from Red Alert: The Aftermath.
[8] Terminal District by Rampastring
About maps, we've also kept improving our map editor, the World-Altering Editor. In case you haven't read it yet, you can check out its new capabilities in our previous news post. If you'd like to give a shot to DTA (or even TS or YR) mapping, it is now more convenient than ever.
Downloads
There's more changes, but we can't cover everything in a news post and keep it a reasonable read. For the full release notes, see our change log page.
If you have DTA installed already, you can update through our client.
If you don't, you can download DTA here on ModDB. Like all modern Tiberian Sun mods, DTA is stand-alone and does not require the original game.
