With a mixture of idle and clicker mechanics, the popular and well-reviewed Idle Slayer is now support on both Linux and macOS. It has over 11,000 user reviews on Steam with a Very Positive rating.

From the Steam page:

"Jump, collect coins, defeat enemies, and slowly grow stronger. What starts as a simple experience gradually evolves into a much deeper adventure filled with progression systems, upgrades, challenges, and secrets waiting to be discovered.

As you progress, you'll earn Souls to strengthen your Slayer, unlock new abilities, and discover mechanics that completely change the way you play. Whether you're actively playing or progressing while away, there will always be a new goal to pursue."

On top of the main part of the game there's also various mini-games with special rewards. There's also over 650 achievements, multiple progression systems, offline gameplay, regular updates and more. The idea of the game is built around constant growth, with a massive skill tree to progress through and new mechanics to keep unlocking - although it's pretty slow-going at the start. You have to get to a point where you get souls from slain enemies, to build up slayer points, which you use to reset your run with points to speed in the vast upgrade tree and then repeat.

Originally released on Steam in December 2020, the developer announced the new platforms earlier this month on October 22nd. So now you can play it across whatever platform you're on, including taking it on the go on mobile or a Steam Deck.

I've been testing the Native Linux build on Fedora KDE 45 and it works without issues. Seems like a nice game to have on a second screen, or minimized to keep checking back on it to do a little more. It's a bit more of a clicker than an idle game though, as it does need some direct interactions to get through it. Also a bit of an endless-runner with the style of it, since you seemingly never stop.

Given how long it takes to get through it - I'm barely scratching the surface of it right now. It opens up more and more quite a lot in the first hour or two of gameplay to unlock extras.

Nice to see more games bring direct support to Linux.

I do always find these types of games a bit odd. Idle Slayer is quite relaxing, mechanically simple and yet it's also weirdly engrossing, because you want to keep going to keep upgrading - but to what end? What's the point? I feel like my brain is just fixated on watching the numbers go up and I want to see more bigger numbers.
